Oh man, this joke ...actually it doesn t really work. Jaune can t get Japanese into her head - me neither... i don t even know, if Jey is a Name that would work in Japanese. Usually i have elaborate stories behind the names, but Jey... well. all of the male characters that land on jaunes menue start with J. I had this rule for a while, but didnt stick to it since part of the storie is older than the rule and i did not adapt it to other names... like Gabriels whole family or Barberas victims.
But if i need a name quickly, i start with the characters initials theyre closest to. Like Maurice or Moe, who is a former Student of professor Mukoshi and will have a fun run in with Gabriel. Or Ginny, who is closest to Jaune in Story but there is a twist to it, so their name start sounding the same, but are spelled differently.
The joke that Jaune remembers Jey-San as Jason... like she mispells everything, would not work, since she couldnt read Kanji - which she aludes to with Squiggely lines, Jey-sans name is spelled in Japanese on his identity card. so why can she read the first syllable... and who says not their name but a ... collegial suffix on their identity card. WHAT WAS I THINKING.
Fact is, yes, she meets jey-san here. she ll retell this meeting a bit different in the next chapter.
